We can all easily recognize a Chevrolet vehicle by its classic bow-tie, dressing up every Chevy vehicle we drive. Most of us do not think twice about its emblem, we just know it symbolizes a Chevrolet vehicle and has become a golden marker on their varied all-star vehicles.

What is the Story Behind the Chevrolet Bow-Tie?

However, there are some of us Chevrolet drivers that wonder about our favorite Chevy of choice features. This would include the ever-popular Chevrolet emblem, you know, the golden bow-tie we have come to know and love.

The Theories Behind the Chevrolet Emblem

One would think that there would be a definitive story behind the history of the bow-tie emblem for the popular Chevrolet company, but there is not.

In fact, there are multiple theories of how the Chevy emblem came to be and it all starts with the theory that Chevrolet and General Motors co-founder, William C. Durant had a dream about a French hotel’s wallpaper that, according to his daughter, was what ignited the creation of the bow-tie.

Another theory, states that it was inspired by a newspaper print ad that Durant and his wife had seen while on vacation in Virginia in 1912.

Others say that the Chevrolet emblem was created based off the Switzerland flag to honor Durant’s business partner and race car driver, Louis Chevrolet, since that was his birthplace.

Which of these theories have you heard before or do you know of a theory as to how the Chevrolet bow-tie emblem was birthed?

Do you believe one of the mentioned theories more than the others? Or perhaps there is another theory that would include all three that make up the creation of the well-known emblem that are displayed by every Chevrolet owner. Either way, Chevy owners wear them well.
