Pizza giant Domino's is teaming up with car giant Ford Motor Company to test consumer reactions to pizza orders being delivered by driverless vehicles. Ford plans to use its immensely popular Fusion sedan with an engineer virtually at the wheel. The two companies hope to gather data on customer reaction to meeting the vehicle in the driveway and removing their pizza from the onboard warming compartment. This trial is intended to give Ford a leg up on the competition regarding autonomous automobiles after promising to have such vehicles on the road by 2021. Sherif Marakby, VP of Autonomous and Electric Vehicles for Ford, said, "As we increase our understanding of the business opportunity for self-driving vehicles to support the movement of people and goods, we're pleased to have Domino;s join us." Customers will meet the vehicle outside of their homes and remove their pizza by entering a purchase-specific code that will unlock the warming compartment. Cameras located inside the warming compartment and in areas on the vehicle will monitor the customers' reactions to the process. Would you trust your precious pizza cargo to an automobile without a human in the drivers' seat?
