The Ford Fusion is a sleek and solid vehicle and the successor of the compact Ford Contour — the last Contour rolled off the assembly line on October 19, 2000.
In 2005, the production of the first Ford Fusion began and was positioned between the compact Ford Focus and the full-size Ford Taurus.
The designer of the first Ford Fusion is a man by the name of, Chris Walter. During 2006 to 2009, also known at the time as the “pre-facelift” and “initial run” the sedan was available in multiple trims - S, SE, and SEL, during later versions, more trims became available.
The Ford Fusion is a four-door, five passenger mid-size sedan and is also the very first Ford to have the three-bar grille. The Fusion has several models to choose from — ones operated on either gasoline gas/electric hybrid, and full electric variants. An early advertising campaign for the Fusion was entitled “Life in Drive”.
These Ford models were marketed as, the EcoBoost engine option to the gasoline engine, a next-generation hybrid, and the Ford Fusion Energi, which is a plug-in hybrid version. The Ford Fusion is the first production sedan to offer these four options.
The gasoline-powered and hybrid versions of the Fusion begin selling in the United States in October 2012, under the 2013 model. The Fusion Energi began selling in early 2013.
At the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show, the entire 2013 Ford Fusion line-up received the 2013 Green Car of the Year award.
Before fuel economy options were available, the Ford Fusion was significantly updated by Ford in 2010. It was provided with new front and rear end designs, as well as, revisions to the interior and powertrain. During this year, the Fusion received the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety “Top Safety Picks” rating for the 2010 mid-size category.
Another facelift occurred for the 2017 model year, which was unveiled at the 2016 North American International Auto Show. New packages, front and rear end styling, as well as a rotary-controlled automatic transmission were amongst the upgrades.
In 2017, the Ford Fusion received another award, this time it was MotorWeek Driver’s Choice Award for Best Family Sedan.
This mid-size vehicle has gone through many changes over the years and we are looking forward to seeing what the 2018 Ford Fusion model will bring.
